It's the 21st century; how does one meet new people? Going to the bar was out of the question; my gym was women-only; I wasn't going to spend more time at the grocery store; so that left one option.... online dating!
So I signed up on PlentyofFish.com. After a few weeks of people sending me messages (and me not responding) I got a very sweet message from a guy that piqued my interest. So I looked at his profile, re-read his message a few times and decided that this was the one that I wanted to talk to more. And who wouldn't be intriqued by a guy name Sunny ;)
We spent a few weeks emailing back & forth then I actually let him find me on Facebook, more messages back & forth, and finally gave him my phone number. We would talk for hours every day about everything & anything. After all the messages & phone conversations, we finally decided that it was time for a date.
We originally said that we would meet for coffee at Cafe Mondo at 7pm but the day before our first date, I suggested going for a drink instead of coffee (we were in the middle of a heat-wave) so Sunny suggested we go to Stars of the Game across the street.
July 7, 2010 Here it is; time to finally meet! I arrived at Stars of the Game at 6:30 and sat facing the door at the first booth. I ordered a drink and waited..... and waited.... and waited.... at 7:15 I started to wonder if I was stood-up. I started texting my friend, not sure what to think (this was my first date in over 10 years) and at 7:40 decided that I was leaving once I was done my drink. Then my phone rings... funny phone conversation takes place and ends with Sunny saying "DON'T MOVE, I'll be there in 5 minutes!"
Turns out, while I was sitting at Stars of the Game, Sunny was across the street at Cafe Mondo! He thought we were meeting at Cafe Mondo and then walking over to Stars of the Game! Finally on our first date, the night was one that I'll never forget!
To this day, when we go to Stars of the Game, it feels like our first date all over again! |
